Story behind 'Siam Love Language' by CHERLYN ORNIKA

CHERLYN ORNIKA aims to inspire modern and elegant women with feminine, alluring and contemporary pieces through Ornika's Thai heritage and romantic essence.

The debut collection, Siam Love Language, symbolises Ornika's childhood and Thai culture. Inspired by Loy Krathong Day, a day of celebration in which people craft basket made from banana leaves into different shapes and placing flowers and candles in the basket. They then grant a wish for their family and friends and let the basket flow in the river as a way to show their appreciation for what they have and to thank the Goddess of the River, 'Mae Kong Ka'. The river was an essential route for trading goods to other countries during the 17th and 18th centuries, boosting Thailand's economy and making it the country it is today.

The collection's colour palette is inspired by a childhood photo Ornika found, which depicts celebrating Loy Krathong day. The richness of the chosen colour reflects a sense of playfulness, welcoming and joy of Thailand.

Ornika pays homage to her Thai culture by using Thai silk and manipulating the fabrics to replicate the banana leaf folding technique and Thai flowers 'Dork-ruk' making the flowers into silver and 18k gold plated embellishment to decorate the creations is inspired by the meaningful crafts of Maalai, Bai Sri, and Kra-thong. In Thailand, these crafts are given to a significant other as a symbol of love and respect.
